DPM involves marking items with barcodes directly instead of with a label or by printing ink-on-paper. Most commonly, Data Matrix or QR marks might be applied by dot - peening, laser or chemical etching, stamping or casting on metal, plastic, rubber or glass.
Use of this type of marking is growing quickly in the fields of medicine - medical device UDI, electronics, and transportation.
Creating a quality barcode is especially important due to the challenging environment for scanning the code throughout the life of product or throughout the supply chain. Lighting, item shape and very small code size are a few influences that might cause a code scan to fail.
